TED started in 1984, its emphasis was technology and design, consistent with its Silicon Valley origins, but it has since broadened its focus to include talks on many scientific, cultural, and academic topics often through storytelling. The speakers are given a maximum of 18 minutes to present their ideas in the most innovative and engaging ways they can. In the spirit of "Ideas Worth Spreading," TED created the TEDx platform (where x stands for independently organized TED event) empowering people around the world to organize their own events and unite their communities in a TED-like experience, under TED’s guidance. At a TEDx event, TED Talks videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection among the local community.TEDx events are non-profit venture. Similarly, speakers are not paid, and also relinquish the copyrights to their materials, which TED may edit and distribute under a Creative Commons license. TEDx is a global phenomenon: by January 2012, 3190 TEDx events had been held in over 800 cities around the world.
TEDxIkeja is designed to tell stimulating yet, native stories and showcase unusual ideas to inspire people to change their lives, their communities, and their world. At TEDxIkeja, our task is not simple. We search, and must find notable people, who offer innovation, enterprise and optimism as antidotes to native challenges. These are the “TEDx Breeds”; people with “Ideas worth sharing.” As the Breeds share great ideas (18 solid minutes or less), others are ignited and the drive for significance begins. Each year, we connect with the international TED community and host viewing events to give national and international ideas a chance to be seen and heard on our local stage.
